Professor Ceder guests as a battery expert on the Verify series of WUSA 9

Professor Gerbrand Ceder appeared on September 10, 2017 as a guest battery expert on the Verify series of WUSA 9, a CBS-affiliated TV station in the Washing DC area. In this video, WUSA 9 attempts to verify whether a cell phone can be charged by a 9-V battery. Their interest in this topic stems from a highly-shared video on Facebook that claims that you can charge your phone with a 9-V battery if necessary during Hurricane Irma. Professor Ceder, one of two experts in the battery field WUSA 9 turned to for information, commented, “I wouldn’t do it, you have a significant risk of– at the minimum damaging your phone or at the worst causing a battery explosion.”
