Professor Gerbrand Ceder wins 2016 MRS Materials Theory Award
Gerbrand Ceder, Chancellor’s Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at UC Berkeley and Faculty Staff Scientist in the Materials Sciences Division at Berkeley Lab, will be receiving the 2016 Materials Theory Award from the Materials Research Society, one of the most prestigious awards in the field of materials theory. Gerd will be recognized for developments creating the field of computationally guided materials design, including the prediction of functional, thermodynamic and kinetic properties, their integration with experiment, and the field of high-throughput computation.
The awards ceremony will take place during the Fall MRS meeting in Boston. The MRS Materials Theory Award recognizes “exceptional advances made by materials theory to the fundamental understanding of the structure and behavior of materials”, and it is intended to honor ” both those who have pioneered the development of a new theoretical approach and those who have used existing approaches to provide significant new insight into materials behavior.” More information about the award, including past recipients, can be found here.
Congratulations Professor Ceder!
